And now for an announcement that trumps a new car and even new kittens:
Emily and I are going to have a baby!
We've always known we wanted kids, and now that we've got the house and two good jobs, we decided it was time to take that step. Plus, I'm sure anyone who's seen me around our friends' kids will say "It's about time he got one of his own!" To answer the common questions:
- We're three months along (or, as Emily and other health professionals would say, 13 weeks), which puts the due date at mid-February.
- We don't know and do not plan to find out the sex of the baby. We're going to be old-fashioned and be surprised. In fact, this was part of the logic of why we painted the "spare room" - as it's been known - yellow.
- We have some strong candidates for names, but nothing nailed down, and we don't plan to announce the contenders. We do know the name format, which we're stealing from Emily's aunt who also kept her name. We'll go with _First_ _Middle_ Parkhurst Hoggatt, with Parkhurst as a second middle name, and the kid normally going by _First_ Hoggatt.
Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. I'm excited to finally be able to talk about it! It was hard to feign ignorance about things I'd read but had no public reason to know about when, say, talking to Mike and his girlfriend about their recent pregnancy and now six-week old daughter.
