Emily and I got back last night from a long weekend trip to Ashland, Oregon, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. We saw The Merry Wives of Windsor (staged really wierd, worst show we've seen in our three trips to OSF), Intimate Apparel (very, very good play), and Two Gentlemen of Verona (staged well and with good acting).
We also ate at several of the fantastic restaurants in Ashland, and did some hiking in the nearby southern Oregon wilderness. The biggest drag of the trip was the unusually high 90 degree heat. Heat aside, we still had a great trip. First vacation we've been on in a while.
Congratulations to Mike and Phaedra on the birth of their daughter Katherine!
From Heartfire by Orson Scott Card:
"The whole world's awry," she said.
"True," said Alvin, "but in different ways in different places. Which is what makes travelling worthwhile."
Today's 6/6/06 so, of course, that means... it's election day. Yes, election day again, where we go to the polls to try to figure out the least of the many evils on the ballot. Voter fatigue? Just a bit... particularly exaserbated by the roughly 14,531 mailings we've gotten in the last week from the two Democrats trying to be our state senator. Plus the complete yawning chasm of "blah" that are the Democratic candidates for governor...
Still, I'll be walking over to the local elementary school after work to place my votes. Haven't missed an election since I gained the vote, not gonna miss one now.
