Mmmmm.... Triple Tofu Tower...
Huzzah to the Angels, who last night won the American League West for the second straight year. It's great to have a team that's so competetive.
I've got a theory, though... in 2002, I purchased my first Angels media guide, and they won the World Series. In 2003, I passed on the media guide, and they went 75-87 for third place. I bought the 2004 media guide, and they won the West. Well, I bought the media guide again this year, and they won the West again.
So what I'm saying is, all you other Angel fans have me to thank. Just so you know...
Brief addendum to my previous moving-in post: Sunday night, a delivery guy from a local Italian food place knocks on the door. We're like, "We didn't order anything. That's our address, but not our phone number." So he takes off... then comes back in five minutes. It was, after all, for us - a gift from our real estate agent. I joked with Emily that now we just needed a surprise chocolate cake to follow our surprise dinner.
So what happens? Our neighbor (who we met when we were at the house painting the week before) knocks on the door an hour later with a plate of brownies she made. Very friendly. It's pretty awesome to buy a place and discover a cool neighbor next door. She and her family have been in their house eighteen years, and she said she was happy to see a nice young couple replace the rowdy LMU students who had been renting there before.
This past weekend, Emily and I moved into our new home. Saturday, the movers showed up in the morning to haul all of our stuff to the new house. Once they delivered it a few hours later, Emily, her brother Ari, her cousin Mallory, and I started unpacking and settling in.
We made a lot more progress this weekend than I expected, and were even able to get the last accent wall painted (a blue wall in the study). At the moment, there are approximately four "real" boxes left to unpack, and then I have to figure out the best thing to do with my eight or so boxes of Transformers. Probably put the non-displayed ones in the attic and/or the garage, we'll see.
In fact so much progress was made this weekend that I'm considering moving my birthday party in two weeks from Mike's place to ours and combining it with our housewarming party. Now that ought to be a blast!
Last night Emily and I went for a nice walk, maybe a couple miles, exploring the neighborhood. We stopped on the way home at KJ's Diner, a restaurant that's a part of the AMF El Dorado bowling alley. I had some fantastic chocolate chip pancakes, and our delicious dinner only cost us $15, including tip. Great food, good prices, mom and pop atmosphere, very cool. Walked around the bowling alley afterward, it's pretty nice... 32 lanes, pretty good condition concourse, a nice bar that shares a kitchen with the diner. I think it's cool being near a bowling alley, as I have many memories from my childhood running around the center my dad was the head mechanic at.
So, there's a "post-move" update for my reader(s) out there. I'll probably be updating more frequently now as I've got actual news going on with the house and such, so hopefully there'll be more reason for people to check in here.
So, the house mentioned in the previous post (yes, I know it's been a month... it's been a busy month) is now our home! Emily and I now are officially homeowners!
I picked up the keys Friday at 6 PM, and today Emily and I made several runs to Home Depot and Lowe's to get paint, supplies, hardware, etc. We even began painting inside today, which is harder than we expected, but I think we're getting the hang of it. We have a week to work on the house and to pack, and then on the 24th the movers haul all our stuff down the infernal three flights of stairs at the apartment and over to the house.
On an amusing note, we made so many trips to Home Depot and spent so much money today that Discover called Emily to make sure it was her using her card.
