Check out the first Major League Baseball game ever played. It's pretty amazing to think that the game's been played professionally for over 130 years... and you can see a few interesting rules differences between then and now discussed in the game intro.
The Baseball Hall of Fame has a really cool exhibit on their website about uniforms. Check it out!
My DC Dragons are 6-3 over ther last nine games. When your record is 15-45, that 6-3 run looks really good!
Just a reminder, I often write about my DC Dragons on their home page, so take a peak there for more of my amazing humor. Or not.
Last night, I saw the RiverCats beat the Omaha Royals by a score of4-2 in a fun, well-pitched game. A good time was had by all.
In other Cats news, I was looking at the Dayton Dragons website (they're where I borrowed the logo for my DC Dragons) and noticed their Fifth Third Field looked a lot like the RiverCats' Raley Field. The Dragons website listed HNTB Sports Architecture Group of Kansas City, Missouri as the architect. A quick google found their site, and indeed, they did design both Raley Field and Fifth Third Field.
I've either got an eye for detail... or a problem.
This morning, I finished Arthur Tourtellot's Lexington and Concord: The Beginning of the War of the American Revolution It was a very engaging history of the first battle of the Revolution and practically read like a novel. Lots of great detail in this book, you get both an idea of what was going on at the individual level and in the grand scheme of things. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in American history, particularly Revolutionary history.
Yesterday, I got to catch my first live Angels game of the year. They whooped the Dodgers 6-3, which wasn't what I was expecting given that it was Kevin Brown vs. Kevin Appier. And not only did the Angels win, but Shawn Green still had a good game, going 2-4 with a run, RBI and double.
What's the world coming to? You can now find "Iraq's Most Wanted" playing cards on Amazon.
Geez.
Tonight, I'll be headed to Raley Field to watch the RiverCats take on the Salt Lake Stingers, AAA affiliate of the Anaheim Angels. Should be a lot of fun seeing some Angels prospects in action!
In other upcoming baseball action, I'll be catching the Angels-Dodgers game Sunday at Dodger Stadium. I'm really looking forward to that!
When I left work today at 5 PM, the messageboard outside City Hall said it was 104 degrees.
In case anyone was worried about whether or not I was moving back to SoCal next year, have no fear.
California Republicans refused to vote for a bill honoring father's this week, saying the bill advocated "alternative lifestyles."
According the the Bee:
Controversy centered on wording that praised the "wonderful diversity" of America's fathers, saying they include "single fathers, foster fathers, adoptive fathers, biological fathers, stepfathers, families headed by two fathers, grandfathers raising grandchildren, fathers in blended households, and other non-traditional fathers."
I don't get people who are offended by what they call the "gay agenda" or "alternate lifestyle agenda." First off, the only agenda gays have is to be treated like people. Second, given the way so many people get screwed up in "traditional" homes, maybe "alternatives" should be encouraged.
If any of you down in OC were wondering what the super-chocolatey smell wafting down from the north was last evening, I made my famous brownies.
Even better, tonight for dessert I had a warmed-up brownie, with a banana, cappacuino chocolate chunk ice cream, and dark chocolate syrup. My lord.
Mmmmmmmmmmm, brownies...
If you take a gander to the right, you may notice a new link. It's WoT Now?, a pixel comic based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels.
I find it amusing. Sure, if you haven't read the books, you'll probably have no clue, but now who's fault is that, eh?
Many thanks to Mike and Chris for thier help in diagnosing what was wrong with my PC, and giving me advice on how to fix it. It turned out to be a simple $50 power supply that took about ten minutes to install. Whew!
Geekiness to follow, indulge me for a bit:
Hasbro just released a Kay-Bee exclusive Transformer, Bludgeon. This toy is a recolor of a Generation 2 Megatron toy, when - due to stricter toy safety laws - Megatron was changed from being a gun to a tank.
In the Generation 2 Transformers comic, Megatron killed Bludgeon for taking control of the Decepticons while Megatron was away. The old Bludgeon was a Pretender, or a Transformer with an outer organic shell, who's robot form turned into a tank. So, as you can see, it makes some sense to release a new tank Transformer called Bludgeon.
But essentially, Hasbro has taken a toy of one character and recolored it to be another character killed by the original persona of the toy. Ironic, don'tcha think?
The last couple of seasons, Major League Baseball has been fretting: "Games take too long, we need to shorten the game to keep people's attention, short short short."
Here's an idea: When you have the Cubs-Yanks going with Clemens pitching for his 300th win, DON'T HAVE THE TELECAST START AT 10 AM AND THEN HAVE A HALF HOUR OF PREGAME BULLSHIT WITH JEANNIE ZELASKO AND KEVIN KENNEDY, BOTH OF WHOM MAKE THE GUYS ON "BASEBALL TONIGHT" SEEM LIKE FREAKIN' GENIUSES!!!
I'm tuning in at 10 AM to watch baseball. They've just wasted a half hour of my time with their pregame crap. That turns a three hour game into a three and a half hour game. FIX THAT!
If the telecast starts at 10 AM, the first pitch shoulld be no later than 10:05.
Oh, and don't even get me started on the dumbasses they have calling the game on Fox...
This freakin' rules: Transformers Monopoly!
I had a pretty good weekend. Saturday, Emily and I celebrated our engagement at a party thrown by her folks. Lotsa fun there. Then, I went back to the OC and spent some more time with my folks.
Sunday, I played Strato live (as opposed to over IM) for the first time in a year. My DC Dragons played pretty well, going 4-2 for the week and giving me some hope for the second half.
