Now that I've composed myself, let me just tell you how excited I am that the Angels are going to the playoffs for the first time since 1986.
I'm very, very, very, very excited.
THE ANGELS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!
THE ANGELS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!
THE ANGELS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!
THE ANGELS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!
THE ANGELS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!

I'm currently reading When Government Fails: The Orange County Bankruptcy for my Intro class tonight. I'm reading it very carefully because:
A - I was too busy playing high school basketball to pay much attention when it happened.
B - I actually already owned this book from an undergrad course at UCI, and don't think I actually read it. It was the only one, honest.
C - The professor knows I'm from OC, so I expect to be called on as some sort of "expert" tonight.
One of the classes I'm taking is "Research Methods in Public Policy." In this class, our reading list includes many case studies. In most of these case studies, the writers use the convention:
"Tha data are indicative..."
Now, I KNOW that technically data is plural and datum is singular, and that saying:
"The data is indicative..."
...is in some sense incorrect. But least when you say "Data is..." instead of "Data are..." people don't look at you like you're insane. "Data are..." just bugs the hell out of me.
I also wonder how much of this pet peeve can be traced back to Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Today, while shopping at REI with Em for an upcoming backpacking trip, we saw quite the amusing item:
The Titanium Spork.
Yup, a space age version of the utensil found in school cafeterias everywhere.
More useful, I also found some shoes there. I've been wanting new shoes for months, but being freakishly tall, with correspondingly freakishly large feet, I've had no luck. However, I managed to find both New Balance athletic shoes and Teva sandals there - and both on clearance, only $60 each. Very cool!! And oh so comfy!!
As Mike said, "Wikipedia kicks ass."
I agree.
Who is John Galt? The Comic Book!!
ESPN ranks the Angels as the best team in baseball.
'Nuff said.
I have just gauranteed that no physical harm will come to me in the coming year. Know how?
I just purchased medical insurance through my school for $690. Thus, I will never, ever, ever actually need to use it.
The Anaheim Angels just beat the Oakland A's to take 1st place in the AL West. Oh, and the small matter of...
THE BEST RECORD IN THE AL.
Yup. Over the Yankees, A's, Twins, M's and anyone else you care to name. They also have...
THE SECOND BEST RECORD IN THE MAJORS.
They trail only the Atlanta Braves, and them by only one game.
Go Angels!! w00p!!
Safeway's medium peach pineapple salsa is good stuff!!
Happy Friday the 13th to you!!
Good quote from Mike's Random Quote Corner (tm):
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." - Unknown (not Julius Ceasar)
I picked Emily up an optical mouse yesterday at Fry's, and now I'm tempted to get myself one, after having to clean the "gunk" off the internal rollers of my mouse today.
Last night, my strato team won a game.
"Why is that remarkable?" you ask.
Because prior to that game, I'd lost 18 in a row.
True, I'm still 4-23 in the second half, but right now, I have a 1 game win streak going.
A moment of silence in honor of the victims of 9-11-01.
I wish I had something profound to say, but I'm not sure that there's anything left to say. Be nice to each other, folks, and appreciate the people you care about.
Say, any Angels fans out there notice this?
AL Batting Average Leaders:
1 - M. Sweeney, KC .342
2 - B. Williams, NYY .339
3 - M. Ramirez, BOS .332
4 - I. Suzuki, SEA 327
5 - A. Kennedy, ANA .317
That's right, Anaheim's own Adam Kennedy has the fifth best average in the AL, as of this posting. Amazing!!
After three days with no love from Google, I'm now back in its good graces, with 74 hits so far today.
Makes no sense, but is kinda cool.
Happy New Year!!
"What?," you say.
Sundown tonight begins Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year. Welcome to 5763, everyone!!
I'm no longer getting love from Google. After four consecutive days of 150+ hits each day, I've only got 16 so far today. I wonder what happened (both now and four days ago) to cause all this.
Happy Birthday to my wonderful girlfriend, Emily!!
Happy 25th, Babe!!
Damn the A's and their 20 wins in a row!! I figured for sure last night would be the end of the streak, after they gave up an 11-0 lead.
Oh, well, at least the Angels are 3.5 back of the A's in the West and 3.5 up on the M's in the Wild Card.
In the spirit of the last post, I have now added a translator to my website. Courtesy of AltaVista's Babelfish function, you can now view my site in most major languages. A hint, though: for non-Roman alphabet languages, you must have the proper alphabet files installed on your computer.
Check the bottom of the left sidebar for the language menu.
This is a cool website. To see my site in French, click here.
Thanks to Google indexing my hidden porn key words a few days ago, I've already set a new mark for visitors in a month, and it's only the 4th.
Thanks Google!!
For all my new visitors, please feel free to enjoy my page. Welcome!!
This is awesome.
Today is my first day of class. Tonight, I have Intro to Public Policy. Exciting!! I actually had volleyball class this morning, but that doesn't quite count.
Emily and I got back last night from spending Labor Day weekend with her family in San Diego. We had a pretty good time. Highlights include seeing My Big Fat Greek Wedding - great movie - and having dinner at George's By The Cove, easily the best restaurant I've ever been to. If you're ever in SD and want an excellent dining experiece, and either 1) price is no object, or 2) someone else is paying, go to George's.
On that note, thanks to Em's folks for treating us to a great weekend!!
