Here's a cool Rob Neyer article about the recent Angels-Mariners series. Nice to see the Angels get some national media propz.

I am now 100% unpacked up here. The apartment is now an amalgam of all of our stuff and looks really nice. Everything blended together nicely. Our next apartment improvement step is to buy a couch and a coffee table for the Entertain-O-Plex - the room which features our TV/Cable/DVD/VCR/PlayStation Entertainment Monolith. But, we aren't in a rush - a couch is a major investment, we want to shop around first.

In other news, yesterday I got our internet router set up so Em and I can have both our computers online at the same time. Huzzah!!

Mad propz to the Angels, who just entered a tie for 1st in the AL West with an amazing 1-0 win in Seattle. After 8 shutout innings from each starting pitcher, the M's closer Sasaki came in and gave up a run on a sac fly to Wooten, then Percy came in for the Angels and got the M's 1-2-3 to save the outstanding win.

BTW - While the M's and Halos are tied for first, the Angels (62-41, .602%) have a slight percentage point edge over the M's (63-42, .600%). The Angels took 5 of 6 from the M's in the last week. Now THAT'S a statement!!

My stuff got here Friday, and I've been unpacking ever since. Almost everything is unpacked now, and all the major stuff is finished (finding space for my Transformers, hooking up the TV/Cable/VCR/DVD/PlayStation entertainment monster, etc.).

For Ryan's sake, here's some love for the Angels, who were in first place in the AL West for one glorious day, and could be there again soon if they beat the Mariners in today's series finale. Go Angels!!

I'm going to try to get the router set up today so I can stop posting from Em's computer and also get into my e-mail. For all my e-mail homeys out there, I'll let you know when I'm back.

Greetings once again from Sacramento. This is coming from Em's Mac, and I'll ty to type quick, as we've been having internet trouble.

This whole "living together" thing has been going well. I try to do useful stuff like dong the laundry, washing dishes, etc. while she's at work, and then we enjoy a nice evening together (we're currently watching "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone").

In other news, I've been enjoying wasting time with Blizzard's WarCraft III computer game. I'm currenty up to the 2nd chapter of the Undead campaign in single player (and haven't gotten a chance at multiplayer yet due to the aforementioned internet issues) for all you fellow WarCrafters out there. Fun game!!

Greetings from Sacramento!!!

After leaving at 9 AM, I arrived here at 4:45 PM. From 9:15 to 4:30, I was on the 5 (or at a gas station/rest stop right off of it).

The biggest adventure was getting a flat tire at 10:45 going up the Tejon Pass. I marched to a call box, and AAA was on their way. By 12:15, I'd had my spare put on, gotten to the next town (Gorman - "A Place to Get Gas!!"), and gotten a new tire and filled up on gas.

Not too exciting, other than the flat tire. All I can say is, once you get past LA Metro, there's NOTHING on the 5 bigger than a gas station-and-McDonalds pit stop town until you get within about 60 miles of Sac.

Anyways, good tidings to all my friends in So Cal, I'll post again as I get settled in IN SACRAMENTO!!

This morning, the cable company is coming to reclaim their cable box and cable modem. This means I'll be without internet access and cable TV until I get to Sac. While this may help the efficiency of my packing... the horror!! The horror!!

In any case, I'll not be posting for a while. When next I post, though, it'll be... from SACRAMENTO!!!

Boy, one of the Laws of Physics must be "You don't know how much stuff you've got till you try to put it all in boxes."

Packing for my move progresses, and I'll get it done, but boy... I've got a lot of stuff. A LOT.

ESPN's Rob Neyer recounts an interesting series of events in baseball in 1902. Pretty interesting stuff, if you enjoy baseball history.

Last Gary Softball Update of the season for me. We lost by three, and I went 1 for 2 with a BB, a K, and a run scored.

No wins this season... damn.

Quite the weekend for me:

- Friday night, after picking up Emily at the airport, me and a gaggle of friends went to Maggiano's for some fine Italian food in honor of my pending move to Sacramento. It was a great time. To top it off, my friends pitched in and got an ENTIRE "Motherload" cake for me. For those of you unfamiliar with the "Motherload," it's about 15,398,237 pounds of chocolate cake. My friends are insane. The cake is much appreciated, though!!

- Saturday featured a softball morning, where I hope I got my hitting grove back (we'll see for sure at softball tomorrow). After that, Em and I went down to San Diego to visit her brother (he's a UC San Diego student) and go to a Padres-Cardinals game at Qualcomm Stadium (Cards won 2-1 in 10 innings, good game). Also, we got free Mark Kotsay mesh batting practice jerseys. As they only had XL, I got Em's, so I have one for general wear and one for playing in.

- After spending the night in San Diego, Em and I spent the morning hanging out with her brother before returning to OC. After dropping Em off at the airport, I went over to my folks' and we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Chili's.

So, that's my weekend. Tomorrow, I'll be doing move-related stuff, and then playing softball in the evening. Also tomorow, Ryan and Adam's mom will be having surgery. My thoughts will be with the VanderYachts.

Watching the Angel game, catcher Bengie Molina - perhaps the slowest player in baseball - just took third on a single to right by Adam Kennedy. Amazingly, he reached third safely.

Better yet, Bengie tagged up on a flyball to right by the next batter to score on a great slide and tie the game up 1-1 against the Royals.

Good job, Bengie!! Way to play agressive baseball.

Update: One out later, Tim Salmon tagged a base hit to center, and Kennedy came home and plowed over the Royals catcher, who dropped the ball, to score the go ahead run, making it 2-1.

Hard-nosed baseball from the Angels - gotta love it!!

I just returned from my LAST DAY OF WORK. Huzzah!!!

In a bit, I will be picking Emily up from the airport, and later on tonight, we'll be joining a gaggle of my friends for dinner at Maggiano's.

Tomorrow is my LAST DAY AT WORK. I'm very, very excited about it.

In preparation, I brought my personal effects home from work today. To show how impersonal my cube was, here's my entire list of personal stuff: 2 Transformers, Lord of the Rings calender, Angels magnetic schedule, ticket stubs from the last two seasons of baseball games, and a small framed appreciation note from a work committee.

Basically, a handful of stuff in almost two years in the office.

In a very strange piece on ESPN's Sportscenter involving the destruction of bobblehead dolls, ESPN's Kenny Mayne predicted the Dodgers over the Angels in the World Series.

While his method is a bit... unscientific to say the least, and I'd obviously rather see the Angels win, I believe it's the first time I've heard anyone predict - by bobbleheads or any other method - the Angels going to the Series.

Cool!!

BASL All-Star Update: The Red Division (my squad) beat the Blue Division 7-5 to take the 3rd Annual BASL All-Star Game.

Former Dragon and current Islander Jim Thome beat Hawaii fan favorite Jim Edmonds to win the Home Run Derby.

July 09, 2002

I just watched what was a very exciting Major League Baseball All-Star game... until the conclusion.

It ended in an 11-inning 7-7 tie. Second time in 73 All-Star games that a game's ended in a tie, and the first was due to a rainout after 9 tied innings.

Tonight, the cause? Both teams ran out of pitchers.

Dramatic, huh?

Further compounding the embarassment, baseball had just renamed the All-Star MVP Award after the recently passed Ted Williams, widely regarded as the Best Hitter Ever.

And, of course, in a tie game, the MVP is... no one. So, there's still be no reciepients of the new Ted Williams Award.

Just what baseball needed to make the fans forget about the labor crisis, steroids, contraction, large/small market issues, etc., etc., etc....

I can gaurantee this won't happen in tomorrow's BASL All-Star Game (Red Division Roster, Blue Division Roster).

After an exciting weekend with Emily, I'm back with another softball update.

We lost once again, 20-17. I went 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and a strikeout. Oi!

I have an unnamed friend who's big time into pro wrestling and thinks rpg's are for geeks.

THIS should confuse and frighten him.

I don't even know Spanish, and I think the below blurb from ESPNDeportes is pretty darn cool:

BOSTON -- Los Yankees de Nueva York, buscando llenar uno de los pocos huecos que tienen en su alineación, adquirieron el lunes al guardabosques Raúl Mondesí de los Azulejos de Toronto por el lanzador de ligas menores Scott Wiggins y consideraciones en efectivo.

My favorite part is "Nueva York."

And check out the write-up from Sunday's Angel-Dodger game:

Serafines ganan batalla angelina

Another night of softball, another loss. This is getting tiring. I played poorly on top of it, 0-2 with a walk and a run scored. Oh well, there's always next week.
