It's Tuesday, and that means it's time for another Gary Softball Update!!

In team news: We won by mercy rule 23-8, and brought our record to 4-4, the first time we've been at .500 all season. We have two more games to go this season.

In my news: I went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and a K. The K came came when we were up twelve and I decided to see if I could jack a homer. I couldn't. I played 2B and C, and my best defensive play came at catcher when I picked off a guy at first who took a biiiiig lead off of first on a swinging strike. I'm now batting .467 with a .967 OPS on the season.

Click here for updated league standings sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Tonight, I went to my temple for our Rabbi's 50th birthday party (and got there early to help decorate - my decorating specialty is "hanging things up really high"). I had a great time. The entertainment was Phranc, who cannot be summed up.

I could try to explain why my temple is so cool, but it's late, and I'm too tired to be here several hours typing. Feel free to browse the the temple website, though, if you're curious to learn about the reason I'll be converting (from, well, nothing at all, if you're wondering) when I get the time to take the classes. Yes, my wonderful girlfriend Emily introduced me to Judaism, but BCC is what convinced me it was something I wanted for myself.

Well, I may not have played softball last night, but my team did. They won 21-11, to bring our season record to 3-4. Huzzah!!

I regret to inform you, there will be no Gary Softball Update today. This is becasue I feel terribly ill and didn't wake up till 3 PM (other than to call in to work sick in the morning and go back to bed).

So, there'll be no exciting recounting of my softball diamond heroics. If I come up with something interesting to post later, you'll be the first to know. Now, in order to feel a little more human, I'm gonna take a shower.

Tonight, I am watching ESPN's Baseball Tonight for the first time this season. Dear God, I love baseball. I've already got tickets to Opening Day at Edison Field (courtesy of Ryan, who was kind enough to go to the stadium and get "the group" tickets) and we just started our Strato season. I've been following all the sites listed on the sidebar this offseason, and it's just so great to finally get close to the actual season.

Baseball rules. I missed it so.

Go Angels!!

It's been a while since I posted. Well, I've had a busy week. Wednesday was opening day in my Strato league (I went 3-3), Thursday I celebrated Pi Day (3.14) by going out with some friends for pie, Friday was lunch with my mom (we both work in the Fashion Island area of Newport Beach) and an evening of dinner out with friends and cruising at the Block of Orange, this morning was softball, and tonight was another evening of dinner out with the friends.

To top it all off, my wonderful girlfriend Emily came down this afternoon and we've been enjoying each other's company.

If you've been wondering why I've been a little light on the posts recently, it's because my Strat-O-Matic league drafted on Saturday, and we've all been frenzied prepping for and writing about the upcoming season. Opening Day is tomorrow.

If you care to see what I've been writing about my DC Dragons, head over to the team webpage.

Well, it's Tuesday, and that means a Gary Softball Update. And, guess what? We won tonight!! We actually had ten guys show up, and we managed to win 18-16. Check here sometime Wednesday for current league standings. My team is State Street.

I went 3 for 4. My numbers are now .462 avg, .462 obp, .500 slg, and a .962 ops. The best part is my hits were solid and not just the sloppy contact I was getting a few weeks ago. The trick is I moved forward in the batter's box becasue I was swinging short where I was standing before, and I held my wrists more firm so I could to drive the ball more. It worked.

Today, I've watched the end of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, then Star Trek: Generations, and I am now watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, all courtesy of the Sci Fi Channel. Sci Fi rules!!

Oh, and I like chocolate pudding.

After a delightful evening with a group of my friends seeing "The Time Machine" at the Irvine Spectrum, I stopped by the Just Sports store there. They had the "Winged A" style replica Angels jerseys for half off. PLUS they had a "buy one, get one, one half off" sale going.

Bottom line? I just got both home and away "Winged A" Angels jerseys for less than I paid for my home "Red Dawn" Angels jersey a couple weeks ago. Sweet!!

Tonight I had several of my friends over for a dinner party - Mike, Phaedra, Chris, Adam, and Beth. I'm pleased to say it went very well. My enchiladas ended up becoming enchilada caserole when I realized I didn't know how to make actual enchiladas, but it still tasted good. My (in)famously too-chocolate brownies were also quite tasty.

After dinner, we broke out "Loaded Questions" and had some board game hilarity, with Beth emerging the victor of the actual game. I'd have to say that a good time was had by all this evening. Thanks again to all my guests for such an enjoyable evening.

Here's yesterday's softball update, a bit later than usual. My team lost 23-10. That isn't too bad considering we only had eight players show up. We played with no second baseman (I split time at catcher and first) and just three outfielders. The team is now 1-4. I had a mediocre game individually. I went one for five with two runs scored. I made good contact each time, I just kept grounding it right at someone. Oh well, there's always next week.

Oh, here's my league's website, usually updated the afternoon after our games. I play for State Street.

Today marks the one year anniversary of my hire date, when I moved from being a temp to actually working for my current company. Those who know me know exactly how excited I am about that.

I just got back from another weekend of visiting my girlfriend in Sacramento. We had an absolutely great time this weekend, and I miss her already. I can't wait till she comes down next (March 15-17).
